The sounds of tinnitus are buzzing, humming and ringing among the most common phantom sounds for tinnitus sufferers. People with this disorder usually will have hearing loss issues and are anxious to know what the options are. One of the most important questions to tinnitus sufferers is what help is available to them. When hearing loss develops, especially after cochlear damage has occurred to the middle ear, choices need to be made regarding cochlear implants and hearing devices.

Help for Hearing Loss

Help for hearing loss or deafness is available for tinnitus sufferers, with many organizations providing assistance to assist with hearing loss from common ear problems. Some nonprofit organizations for individuals with hearing loss may provide financial assistance for hearing aids, while alternatives may help provide used or refurbished aids. Contact the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders’ (NIDCD’s) cial assistance for hearing aids.

There are many assistive devices – such as hearing aids. If the hearing loss becomes so bad it becomes a permanent condition, white noise sounds can be purchased on CDs or for iPods are a way to dim the tinnitus sounds. Listening to white music is best listened to during the night, in order for a person can get a good night’s sleep, allowing tinnitus sufferers to deal with problems and ear noise better the next day. White noise can gently over-ride the sounds of tinnitus, a peaceful sound slightly lower than the normal sound heard in a person’s ear. It works because stress and anxiety from the constant tinnitus sounds make things worse by increasing the hearing loss and unexplained ear noises.

Tinnitus (ringing in ears), hyperacusis, Meniere’s disease, and inner ear imbalance are the most common ear problems that influence hearing loss. By far the worse ear sound is the sounds of tinnitus as they keep the affected person awake all night. Eventually, the patient will develop total deafness to everything but the tinnitus sounds of buzzing and whistling.

Cochlear Damage

Inner ear cochlear damage is one of the most common causes of the many sounds of tinnitus. It usually will happen because of a sharp and loud noise, an explosion, attending a rock concert, or working all day with the noise of heavy machinery – the louder, the more damaging. Cochlear damage can progress far enough to develop hearing loss or acute tinnitus if left unattended, causing high frequency hearing loss.

Cochlear damage can be repaired with a surgically implanted electronic device – referred to as a bionic ear or cochlear implant. In the United States, 2009 saw about 30,000 people with these implants to allow them to hear while globally the number is 188,000. First done in 1950 by French-Algerian surgeons, today the implant consists of external and internal parts with individual criteria determining who will have the surgery done:

Availability of one functioning auditory nerve.

Having profound sensorineural hearing impairment in both ears.

Having a 70+ dB hearing loss for a certain amount of time.

Not benefiting from other kinds of hearing aids.

Having good communication skills, speech and language.

Tinitus ( Tinnitus)

Tinitus ( Tinnitus) occurs when a person hears abnormal ear noises or ear sounds inside one or two ears. This sound can consists of whistling, buzzing or ringing – anything heard that is not from external sources. The problem with tinitus is that ears won’t stop ringing with ear buzzing going on all the time, which is the number one complaint about it by tinitus sufferers. Some victims complain about blocked ears or ringing ears, or a “full” feeling inside their ears, which prevent them from hearing very well – if at all.

Recently a new treatment for tinitus (Tinnitus) has hit the news – the Neuromonics treatment –, which has promising results tinitus ( Tinnitus) sufferers next to retraining tinitus (Tinnitus) therapy. Considered a new and non-invasive treatment with sometimes instant and controllable results, research over the last ten years has improved tinitus perceptions tremendously. This new research is showing us that tinitus is not a hearing problem itself but a neurologically based condition with hearing problems as a symptom. Neuromonics Tinitus treatments help the brain filter out what we thing tinitus is all about. Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment is an acoustic-based treatment complemented by assessment, monitoring, support and education from a clinician over a six-month period.

Comparisons of Tinitus Treatments

There are many treatments for tinitus which treat the symptoms only: tinnitus retraining therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, hypnosis hypnotherapy, hearing aids, tinitus maskers, noise and sound generators for white noise, and drug treatments for tinitus. Hypnotherapy can also treat the cause of tinitus, in a different way than the new Neuromonics tinitus treatment and the tinitus retraining therapy does. Very few tinnitus treatments provide immediate relief for many – hypnosis & hypnotherapy is one of those. Others have the potential for long-term relief after their treatment, such as Neuromonics tinitus treatment, tinitus retraining therapy and hypnotherapy are capable of achieving long-term lasting results.

Neuromonics Treatment for Tinitus

The average tinitus treatment is about the symptoms of tinitus, not the root source. A new treatment for tinitus is the Neuromonics treatment that works from the root on out, relieving symptoms of tinitus in a shorter period than the retraining therapy for tinitus. The treatment duration for tinitus by Neuromonics is six months, with an evaluation by a trained audiologist completed before the treatment begins.

The device used for the tinitus treatment delivers an “acoustic stimulus” with precisely designed music at a low listening level. Each stimulus will be customized per individual as if it were a tinitus prescription. The purpose of the Neuromonics treatment is to train the brain to develop new neural connections which will allow it to filer out tinitus sounds. Treatments last two hours daily to start with, decreasing over time as the tinitus dissipates.

Ringing In The Ears

Ringing in the ears – or tinnitus – is dependent on (1) ear noise in your ears, (2) the types of hearing levels, and (3) symptom of tinnitus the patient has. Only then can a basis be made for its treatment. “How is tinnitus evaluated?” depends on the answer to those three situations. To treat tinnitus properly will require an accurate diagnosis by a qualified medical practitioner. To do so, those questions need to be answered. Unless, of course, the ringing in the ears is not severe enough to seek attention or it is only a temporary situation.

The relationship between tinnitus and ringing in the ears is associated with many factors which could be involved. One such thing is the Eustachian tube – could it be plugged or infected? Has the patient been swimming in dirty water, developing swimmer’s ear (external otitis), referred to as an ear infection of the ear canal caused by bacteria or fungi. If hearing loss is occurring, how severe is it and how long has it been going on? Tinnitus sufferers should sit down and answer a lot of questions before going to the doctor. The answers will make a big difference on the outcome.

Holistic healing of Tinnitus

Holistic healing and natural products are fast becoming the way to go with major disorders and diseases, such as with tinnitus and its problems of ear ringing and hearing loss. Tinnitus is normally not a serious condition, usually developing because of a noise-induced hearing loss. But tinnitus with vertigo or dizziness can be related to inner ear infection, ear noise, ringing in the ears, anemia, heavy metal toxicities, inner ear degeneration, stress, circulatory problems, or vessel dyscrasia.

The one thing that will work on every one of these symptoms is acupuncture when nothing else works. This is because depression, anxiety and suicide attempts are normal tinnitus complications on a psychological level for a hearing problem. This level can worsen in minutes based on individual choices: caffeine, allergens, tobacco, salt, medications, negative emotions, heavy physical work, and high intensity noise. All of these symptoms become worse because of one uncontrolled area of tinnitus – a serious lack of sleep – which increases a person’s level of stress and anxiety.

Traditional medicine would have to treat each symptom separately, while acupuncture can treat them all at once.

Symptoms of tinnitus are usually inconsistent, but many holistic homeopathic remedies have been able to help with various conditions for ringing in the ears or tinnitus. Some popular natural remedies for dizziness and vertigo are argentums nitricum, conium, cocculus, or nux vomicum.
